Consider A Drain Cleaning Service For Your Home

Blog

If you have been having issues with the drains in your homes becoming clogged again and again, you may want to consider having your drains cleaned. There are a number of different reasons why your drain and sewer lines become clogged, and no doubt it's frustrating when it happens again and again. Here are some reasons why certain drains clog, and what a drain cleaning service can do to help.

Kitchen Drains

Kitchen drains tend to clog over a long period of time. They will run slower as soap, fats, greases and detergents accumulate on the inside of the pipes. From there a clog will form and your drain will stop draining altogether. A drain cleaning allows the clog to be cut through and released, allowing the water to drain freely once again.

Bathroom

There are a few things that can go wrong with bathroom drains. For the shower, the culprit for clogged drains is a buildup of soap and hair that become trapped in the drainpipe. The bathroom sink becomes clogged with toothpaste, hair, and soap. A drain cleaning service will use a variety of solutions to remove the clogs and clean the inside of the pipes.

As for the toilet, well you know what can overwhelm their drains. A spinning cable fed into the toilet drain has spring loaded blades, and will cut through the obstruction as well as hug the inside of the pipe. This allows the clog to be dissolved and full draining and flushing are back to normal function.

Floor Drains and Downspouts

You may have floor drains in your home in the laundry room, garage or basement. They are also found in driveways and on patios, and some older bathrooms have floor drains. They usually have a trap filled with water to prevent sewer gases and odors from escaping. Over time debris can accumulate in a floor drain, so having a drain cleaning is a good way to flush that dirt out of your drains.

Downspout drains help to guide water from your roof and away from your home. Some downspouts are connected to the municipal sewer system by way of underground pipes. These pipes can become clogged with leaves and other outdoor debris. When a large backup occurs, there may be flooding and other water damage around the home. A drain cleaning service (such as Gold Seal Plumbing) can work to cut through that debris, which builds up over time.

Home Repair Tips for the Novice

When I bought my first home, I was terribly inexperienced when it came to maintaining it. It seemed as if something was always broken. After spending a weekend battling with my oven, I decided that I enough was enough. I started reading everything I could about things related to the home. By the end of my research, I still could not fix my plumbing, but I could look knowledgeable as the plumber explained what was wrong. In an effort to help others avoid the tedious task of reading book after book about plumbing and appliance repairs, I started this blog. Hopefully, this information will save someone from a weekend spent wrestling with their own appliances.
