Benefits of Choosing to Have a Metal Garage Constructed

Construction & Contractors Blog

If you don't currently have a makeshift workshop or a car repair shop in your garage, then it may be time to have a dedicated space erected for your hobbies. There are a wide variety of options available to you, and metal garages are often the best choice for durability. There are a number of other reasons why you may want to pick a metal garage, so keep reading to learn about a few.

They Are Fire Resistant

It goes without saying that if you want to protect your belongings from fire damage, then you should invest in a metal structure. Certain metals are stronger than others through. Metals like aluminum and copper will not retain a lot of their structural integrity at temperatures above 200 degrees Fahrenheit, so they are not a great choice for a metal garage.

Steel is ideal, even when the metal is subjected to heat from a fire. Steel buildings can even retain the majority of their strength after they have gone through a fire. Steel only starts to lose its structural integrity at temperatures above 500 degrees Fahrenheit. This is true of the more common carbon steel. If you want additional strength, then ask your steel building fabricator for a steel garage made from austenitic steel. This type of steel will remain strong at temperatures above 550 degrees Fahrenheit.

If you cannot afford the more expensive austenitic steel, then consider investing in a stainless steel over a galvanized steel product. Stainless steel has been shown to retain strength for a longer period than galvanized steel.

They Are Versatile and Changeable

If you want a unique space, then you may also want an abnormal shape, size, or height when it comes to your garage. You also may want a variety of openings and different sections within your garage. Unfortunately, many traditional garages made from wood and other materials will be more of a cookie cutter shape with construction that cannot be tailored to your needs. Metal can be tailored; in fact, many steel buildings are actually custom-made and custom-designed.

The versatility has a lot to do with the parts and pieces that are used to form the garage. The frame, struts, purlins, posts, frame columns, and braces can be constructed on site with bolts and the use of prefabricated materials. Once these materials are connected to create the frame, lightweight roof and wall panels can be added and these materials offer very little weight to the garage overall.

If you want to know more about metal garages and whether they are a good choice for your needs, speak with a metal building fabricator.

Home Repair Tips for the Novice

When I bought my first home, I was terribly inexperienced when it came to maintaining it. It seemed as if something was always broken. After spending a weekend battling with my oven, I decided that I enough was enough. I started reading everything I could about things related to the home. By the end of my research, I still could not fix my plumbing, but I could look knowledgeable as the plumber explained what was wrong. In an effort to help others avoid the tedious task of reading book after book about plumbing and appliance repairs, I started this blog. Hopefully, this information will save someone from a weekend spent wrestling with their own appliances.
